If a wild animal is hurt you can take them to a vet for stray dogs contact the local council. If you need to contact a volunteer about one of our dogs by email please us treasurer.rspca-durham@johnmyatt.org.uk and the message will be passed to the dog co-ordinators.

This site will shortly close and will not be updated further, the site has now moved to www.rspcadurham.org.uk.

The Durham & District branch currently has over 9 kennels at Deerness kennels (a privately owned kennels), Mill Road, Langley Moor, Durham, DH7 8HF (www.deernesskennels.co.uk phone number 0191 378 0439) as well as dogs in the homes of several volunteers.

The two Branch Dog co-ordinators are doing a sponsored kennel sit in on Saturday 24 - Sunday 25 September 2011 to help with the cost of dogs, including Spice who requires treatment for one of his front legs. A sponsership form can be obtained from Deerness Kennels, the dog co-ordinators etc.

The kennels also have dogs available for rehomin at http://www.strayaction.com/userinfo.php if you have lost a dog in County Durham or Darlington then try http://www.strayaction.com/viewpage.php?page_id=27

We always have several dogs available for re-homing, and our kennels are filled almost as soon as a dog is re-homed.

Details of some of the dogs available to re-homed, are below. As we are constantly re-homing animals, you can check with our dog re-homing co-ordinator on the dogs currently available.

All our dogs receive vaccination and micro chipping and must be neutered, this is normally done before release, however in a minority of cases this may be done later. If you want to re-home a dog, one of our volunteers will call on you to carry out a home visit. All the dogs are subject to a donation of at least £80.

You can also ask them for advice on looking after your new pet, but as they are not vets we recommend that you seek professional assistance from a vet on medical matters.

I am a dog and cannot tell you that I also need protection from the sun, but just like you, I need suncream added to my vunerable parts, those where I do not have my hair to protect me or my hair is thin. So if your dog is a little thin or bald, remember to use sun protection to keep him (her) safe.

The RSPCA has produced leaflets on the risk to dogs (and other animals) of being left in hot cars and on the Staffordshire Bull Terriers . Please note these files are between 750 KB and 1.7 MB.

The National RSPCA also have a site on Staffie as pets at http://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaigns/rehomeadog.
