Introduction
The Durham & District Branch covers a wide area, including Derwentside, Ferryhill, and Sacriston etc.
The branch is run entirely by volunteers, who work tirelessly for the good of the animals in this area.
The RSPCA is a registered charity (no. 219099) and is funded entirely from donations, that receives no lottery or state aid. Its annual running costs are funded exclusively by voluntary donations and legacies.
The RSPCA Durham & District Branch is also separately registered with the Charities Commission and our main source of income is our charity shop at 20 Front Street, Langley Moor, along with fundraising events such as Xmas and Easter fares, Tombola stalls, raffles and collections at Tesco and Sainsburys.
The RSPCA does not yet have a small animal home in this area, though planning permission has now been obtained for a centre at Waldridge, near Chester le Street. The RSPCA has now opened up a Cattery at the site in Fell Edge, the full scheme, including kennelling for dogs awaits funding, which will hopefully be in the near future.
The branch rent private kennels and pens to take in abused, unwanted animals as well as pets whose owners are no longer able to care for them. We also have volunteers who "foster" animals in their own homes, until permanent homes can be found, though we always need more volunteers who would be willing to foster both cats and dogs.
All our animals are rehomed vaccinated, microchipped and must be neutered. We can also provide assistance with neutering and vets bills.
If you feel you can help in any way, either fundraising, helping in our charity shop or at our local events, please call. You can also help by making a regular donation to the branch through our Adopt a Kennel form (which is a four page A5 booklet) and completing page 2 and returning all to the address on page 2, page 2 will be returned to you with our bank account details so you can pass to your own bank to set up the standing order. I apologise for this convoluted method which has become necessary due to identity fraud.
